After School Spanish Activities Program School Year 2011-2012
Program held Monday through Friday 3:30 - 5:30
This is a program that includes lighter and non academic activities (games, music, and arts and crafts) where the children will have the opportunity to hear the language but in a more relaxed and less structured way. Although conducted in Spanish, this program is not intended to be a substitute for standard language classes but instead, to reinforce an interest in the language through play, music and arts and crafts.
This program is open to all children. You don't need to be enrolled in a language class to attend this program.
The children who attend formal Spanish classes can join the Spanish Afternoons Program before or after their classes.
The program is structured in 3 periods: 3:30 - 4:15, 4:15 - 5:00 and 5:00 to 5:30. Every period includes a different activity in small groups (usually up to 14 children for 2 teachers). All activities are conducted in Spanish.
Activities
Arts and Crafts
Through a variety of arts and craft activities we encourage creativity, learn vocabulary and reinforce the structures the children study in their language classes. Again, we would like to emphasize that, although conducted in Spanish, this program is not intended to be a substitute for language classes.
Music
We teach a variety of songs in Spanish.
Outside play
Weather permitting, the children are taken out every day for at least 45 minutes. Some children come only once or twice a week, therefore priority is given to linguistic/arts and crafts activities rather than outside play.
Games and story time
At the end of the day (after 5:30), we usually play bingo, the numbers game, the opposites games, the color games, the food game, restaurant vocabulary game, at the grocery store game, etc... We also read stories, dance and choose our own game to play.
Tuition Fees for children attending this program only
5 days per week: $264/month
4 days per week: $211/month
3 days per week: $158/month
2 days per week: $106/month
1 day per week: $53/month
Extra PM time
If you need extra time you can leave your child until 6:00 pm.
The fees for signing up until 6:00 pmpm are as follows:
5 days/week: an additional $55 per month
4 days/ week: an additional $44 per month
3 days/ week: an additional $33 per month
2 days/week: an additional $22 per month
1 day/week: an additional $11 per month
